About Fish Links Swim School
Our Goals, Specialising, Staff, History, Future
With drowning being the number 1 cause of death in children under the age of five. Our mission is to continue the Fish Links Program to educate parents and children and play our part towards reducing these statistics.
Many swim schools cater to all ages and abilities, from the very young through to adults. While we have the expertise to do the same we have chosen to focus on children's lessons from birth - school age. We do cater to some older children who are nervous beginners or still learning their strokes and for children with special needs.
Some children go on to join the Links Swimming Club Inc of which our swim school supports
Fish Links is a private swim school that is Nationally registered with Swim Australia and we are proud to have been one of the founding members of Swim Australia in 1997. To visit their web site and for some great articles and information please follow the link above.
Specialising in an area means we can focus and generate energy into our program, giving it both variety and consistency. We are always researching and staying up to date with industry standards and offer a consistent stable environment for you and your child. Many of our methods are different to those seen elsewhere yet lessons are regularly changing according to the child's age and ability.
All our staff are qualified and have had recent background checks. They are up to date in CPR and First Aid as well as experienced in working with children in the water. We have had the same staff members now for several years including Katie Clarke, Christine Nedas, Alison Moxon, Kate Moxon and Steph Elder who is now AUSTSWIM Qualified also.
All our staff have either attended Fish Links, been parents of children who have attended Fish Links, or they have swam competitively for Katie/Chrissy. This means that we have staff trained and experienced in OUR program and that have an understanding of the high standard expected of them.
Fish Links Swim School opened at the end of 1997 at Vaucluse Hydrotherapy Pool in Brunswick. Since then we have gone from strength to strength. In 2000 we secured the pool at Moomba Park Primary School in Fawkner building the swim school to over 200 children by July 2008. However unexpectedly in 2008 we lost the tender on the pool and our swim school overnight came to a very disappointing holt.
We were faced with closing down altogether or starting from scratch elsewhere. Teaching children under 5 is a service that is not very well catered for in the Northern Suburbs of Melbourne so with that knowledge we decided to return to Vaucluse running on a much smaller scale, yet still providing the same high quality service.
Who knows what the future may bring we do want to move to a bigger facility. Perhaps either build a pool or secure a long term lease on another venue in the near future. Though we are happy for now at Vaucluse now we have settled in there. If anyone is interested in investing in our swim school or working with us, we would warmly welcome your suggestions.
