Water Safety Week

During Water Safety Week we ask all babies and children to come dressed in their clothes for a special lesson. They will participate in their usual activities fully clothed. This reinforces water safety and lifesaving skills and gives children the confidence to hopefully not panic should they fall into the with their clothes on.

While we do focus on Water Safety regularly and incorporate skills into their regular classes we like to allow children to experience the water being fully clothed. The emphasis is on being able to climb OUT of the pool and what to do if they fall in.

All children need to wear clothes; long sleeved top, long pants, shoes and socks! It is important to bring all items with you especially the shoes and socks if a child accidentally falls into the water away from lessons and the controlled environment chances are they won’t have time to take shoes off first!

Babies also need to wear clothes however no shoes if they are not walking yet. Parents wear normal swim gear during water safety week. Some swim schools believe that doing this with young children actually encourages them to walk into water with their clothes on. For this reason we do not do this every session just once a term so if they do fall in by accident they have the skills to be able to get back to the edge and not panic because of the extra weight of the clothes.

If you have further questions regarding this or any other activity in our program please let us know. We will send email and/or text message reminders to you prior  your lesson so you remember to bring the appropriate clothes for children to swim in.

Please remember to bring a garbage bag to carry wet clothes home in!
